Real Salt Lake: Season Preview
Real Salt Lake’s season couldn’t have started any better. Beating the LA Galaxy 3-1 is no small task, especially given the history between the two clubs. Real Salt Lake claimed the MLS Cup in 2009 over the Galaxy, beating them in a penalty shootout. Last year, it was the Galaxy’s turn to take the MLS Cup, defeating Real en route to the championship. So what does this win mean for the upcoming 2012 campaign? One would think not so much right? It’s the first game of the season, it always takes teams a few games to get to their truest of forms. But with the addition of nine new players to RSL’s roster, this win could speak volumes of things to come, not only in the MLS season, but the … Read entire article »

Cards looking for icing on the cake; Manning visits AZ
The Arizona Cardinals finished last season 8-8, which is a very good season by normal Cardinals standards considering their history over the past 60 years. Cards fans, and fortunately Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt and Cards players, have come to expect more however than simply being content with being a middle of the pack team after the Cards Super Bowl in 2008 and back to back division titles. The Cards went 7-2 over their last 9 games which included a 4 game winning streak and 4 overtime victories at home. The Cards were pretty good but not good enough to make the playoffs. The Cards need just a little extra push to get them over the line of mediocrity, break away from the middle of the pack and into the realm … Read entire article »

Should the Cards go after Peyton Manning?
There has been a good deal of speculation about Peyton Manning’s situation in Indianapolis currently. It seems like a pretty sure thing that Manning will not be wearing his customary Colts blue in 2012 but be playing somewhere else because the Colts have already committed to drafting Stanford All-National quarterback Andrew Luck with the first overall pick. So this leaves the rest of the NFL world to talk about by the water cooler, for whom will Manning be gunslinging in 2012? The New York Jets are in the mix after their horrendous meltdown in December and subsequent failure to make even the wild card slot in the playoffs. The sting of missing the playoffs is even worse after head coach Rex Ryan promised a Super Bowl title for a third consecutive … Read entire article »

Something is a ‘Bruin’ in Westwood
UCLA has been in a downward spiral recently in football. They have been beat on the field, beat in recruiting and have gone trough plenty of head coaches in recent years. Now Jim Mora has come in and he and his coaching staff have changed the face of this program just one month in. One month ago UCLA’s recruiting class was nothing special, now this class is something else. Mora and his staff came out of no where and despite the … Read entire article »

Gonzaga vs. BYU
Coming off a poor performance against St. Mary’s, the Cougars are desperate to gain some momentum nearing the end of the season. The Cougars continue to struggle from the 3-point line as they fall once again to the Gaels in the Marriott Center. St. Mary’s overwhelmed BYU with their depth and always had an answer for anything the Cougars threw at them. The first half was dominated by the Gaels thanks to the lights-out shooting … Read entire article »

Jimmer does it again!
At times last season Jimmer just scored and scored and kept on scoring. After a slow start here in the NBA, Jimmer has caught fire. He led the Kings in scoring tonight with 19 points. Jimmer played 36 minutes, shot 5/8 from the three point line and had three assists, one rebound, and one steal. This brings his three game scoring binge to 17.3 points per game and he has seen his minutes go up … Read entire article »
BYU vs. Virginia Tech
BYU heads to the east coast to matchup with a tough Hokies team who is coming off a big win against conference rivals Virginia, then ranked 15th. The Cougars will have to pull it together after a sub-par performance in the matchup against Pepperdine. The 3-point drought continues for the Cougars as they shoot for the second game in a row under 20 percent, which brings the total for the past two games to 4 of 36 from behind the arc. Unfortunate for BYU, The Hokies lead the nation in defending the 3-ball only allowing their opponents to shoot 25.4 percent per game. Seeing as though BYU is already struggling from 3-point land, Virginia will be throwing double teams on Brandon Davies and Noah Hartsock while the Cougars struggle with … Read entire article »

Follow the Maverick Road!
“The grass is always greener…” Its a popular saying, and rightfully so, since it is almost always true. You want what you can’t have. You don’t appreciate what you’ve got. ‘Forget about the 16 banners hanging up, we want number 17!’ Believe me Lakers fans, I get it, but looking at the Heat and pining for a Big Three of your own will not get you to basketball’s promised land. Not with this team. Dreams of landing both Deron … Read entire article »
